Trustee Recruitment

Trustees at the June 2024 Board meeting in Andrew Carnegie House, Dunfermline

The Carnegie Dunfermline and Hero Fund Trusts are launching a recruitment campaign to appoint two new Trustees onto their Board.

The purpose of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust is to spread ‘sweetness and light’ to the lives of the people of Dunfermline. The Trustees are also responsible for overseeing the Carnegie Hero Fund Trust (Great Britain and Ireland).  This Trust was established in 1908 to recognise acts of civilian heroism which take place in Great Britain, Ireland, the Channel Islands or surrounding territorial waters.

We are looking for applications from people who are passionate about improving quality of life in Dunfermline and carrying on Carnegie’s legacy of ‘sweetness and light’. Many of our current Trustees have grown up in the Dunfermline area and have benefited from Carnegie’s legacy, whether that is the library, the swimming pool, the beautiful Glen or funding for schools and clubs.

Our dedicated Board of Trustees are diverse in age and background.  Trustees range from working people to active retirees and local councillors.  All are committed to giving something back to their community as they recognise what a special place Dunfermline and the surrounding area is to live and work in.

In order to use its money for charitable purposes, the Trust deliberately has a small staff team who work closely with the Trustees to carry on the inspiring Carnegie legacy.

Trustees are volunteers who serve an initial period of 7 years with the option of extension.

Our Board meets for two hours, six times a year and there are sub-committees to oversee our local grant giving programme, our museum, the Hero Fund, Trust property and assets, the Pittencrieff Park Ambition Project and Finance, Audit and Investments. We try not to overburden our Trustees but depending on interest and experience, Trustees will have the opportunity to be involved in the sub-committees.
